Devon Gilfillian West Hollywood Concert reviews
Steve Miller Band/Journey/Tower of Power
"The Steve Miller Band and Tower of Power had an amazing performance, with unforgettable song choices and excellent sound. However, Devon Gilfillian's performance fell short, mainly due to sound issues rather than the actual delivery. The lead singer struggled to be heard over the guitars during the first three songs. The guitar player in black leather and sunglasses stole the spotlight, overshadowing the lead singer in terms of sound balance. Instead of singing the lyrics, the lead singer often directed the microphone towards the crowd, emphasizing the focus on the music rather than vocals. The overall disappointment stemmed not from the new lead singer's performance, but from the apparent ego of the guitar player, who dominated the show. While guitar skills were appreciated, the self-centered behavior of the leather-clad performer was off-putting. It is essential to prioritize the lead singer's vocals over excessive guitar solos and to limit the camera time for attention-seeking individuals like Mr. Leather. Journey's legacy lies in their hit song lyrics, not flashy guitar displays. The show became repetitive and tiresome with the constant spotlight on the guitar player, detracting from the overall experience. Improvement in sound balance and performance dynamics is needed to elevate the show's quality."
